2010 BREAKAWAY

Game Description:

Breakaway was a soccer based game in which each robot had to score points by kicking soccer balls into any of four goals in each corner. In the middle of the field, there was a foot tall hill that each robot attempted to climb over to reach the other side of the field; they could either climb over or go through a tunnel underneath. In the last fifteen seconds of the game, teams could score extra points by hanging their robots on six foot tall bars.

Design Solution:

This year’s robot consisted of a pneumatic powered kicker and spring-loader fiberglass rods to hoot onto a bar and allow a motor and a strap to hoist the robot off of the floor. To increase the power of the kicker, surgical tubing was used to add tension and produce a greater “kick”.
