Our Programs

Often the loudest team at competition, FRC 2996 competes with roaring cheers and bright yellow shirts. However, we are also dedicated and spirited in more than just the arena, building a better future as we build our robots. Through our wide range of programs, we inspire students to grow as engineers, leaders, and teammates. We are committed to outreach, education, and community involvement that extends our impact beyond competition season. Together, these programs reflect our belief that robotics is not just about robots, but about people.

Cents For STEM

Our legislative advocacy initiative, Cents for STEM, aims to provide funding to new and struggling robotics teams in the state of Colorado. Our students have drafted a bill and are in the process of advocating to state and local governments.

M.A.D. Summer Camp

A summer program for middle schoolers, MAD sparks interest in STEM through a week full of hands-on learning. Students build robots and compete on a smaller scale with 2996 team members writing and teaching camp curriculum.

Demos

CGW loves to get involved in the community! We often take our robot to local events and schools, in the hopes that we inspire kids in Colorado Springs to pursue an exploration of STEM in the future.

Newsletter

To increase communication with our sponsors and supporters, we implemented a newsletter this year. It’s sent out monthly in the offseason and weekly during build season. It includes information about the progress of our goals, upcoming events, and fun sections about our subteams.

Parent Sponsor Dinner

After our build season, we hold a dinner for our supporters where we unveil that season’s robotand eat dinner catered and prepared by our school’s FCCLA.

Business Exchange

At the Colorado Regional (and this year at the Pikes Peak Regional too), we run a socratic seminar designed to bring discussion about the business side of FIRST. In this Business Exchange, teams share information about fundraising, team structure, outreach events, award writing, and more.

Colorado Scrimmage

Scrimmage was an event that took place before competition where teams could compete in full-scale practice matches with other robots. To help other teams get valuable testing and driver experience, CGW hosted and ran the Colorado Scrimmage from 2012 to 2025.
